The Blue Ridge Parkway

 Unless otherwise posted, parking is permitted along the roadway shoulder. Mile markers along the parkway signify various points of interests ranging from scenic overlooks, to rest stops, to stunning panoramic views of the High Country. Sightseers are encouraged to get out of their cars and explore the wonderful breathtaking views along this unique stretch of road. Overlooks nestled into the mountainsides high elevation offer spectacular views of the gorges and river valleys below. Other access points offer entry into the dense forests itself, where hiking trails, nature walks and sightseeing tours reveal the untouched, natural beauty of native wildlife.

 A number of state parks and national forests are home to campgrounds, picnic areas and hundreds of acres of recreational and water sports sights. The utmost sight along the High Country portion of the Blue Ridge Parkway is Grandfather Mountain, the highest peak in the Blue Ridge mountain range. Almost a mile above sea level, panoramic views showcase the magnificence and awe of the surrounding High Country region. Also a globally recognized nature preserve, Grandfather Mountain provides sustained ecosystems for a variety of native wildlife including black bears, river otters, cougars and eagles. The Blue Ridge Parkway is a passageway to the beautiful landscapes, picturesque views and great history of this distinct reason.
