Horn in the West & Hickory Ridge Museum (June 21st thru August 10th, 2019)

Horn in the West

June 21st thru August 10th 2019

Horn in the West brings to life the famous frontiersman Daniel Boone and the hardy mountain settlers of the Blue Ridge Mountains in their struggle to preserve their freedom during the years before and during the War for Independence. The drama highlights those settlers who came to the region seeking freedom and escape from British tyranny. Dr. Geoffrey Stuart, a prominent British physician, comes to the Colony of Carolina to study the dreaded disease smallpox, bringing his wife, Martha, and their teenage son, Jack. Through hardship and danger, house-raising and romance, the ties that bind the Stuart family and the small pioneer community grow. Dr. Stuart finds himself a respected leader in this hidden mountain community but has to resolve his conflicted feelings of loyalty to the Crown and his family’s sympathy for the Regulators and their fight for American independence.

3rd Annual Moonshiners Fly In (August 1st thru August 4th 2019)

3rd Annual Moonshiners Fly In

Aug 1 at 6 AM – Aug 4 at 8 PM

3rd Annual “Moonshiners” Powered Para Glider event for 2019 at Johnson County Airport (6a4) in beautiful Mountain City, Tennessee.
August 1st to the 4th 2019

We all had so much fun last year with the great turn out for some scenic mountain flying that we are inviting everyone to do it again this year.

For those that haven’t been here before, we boast breathtaking mountainous views, friendly locals, interesting side amenities and a supporting Fixed Base Operator. Search the numerous YouTube videos from previous events to get the feel of what Mountain flying is all about. This general aviation airport is perfect for PPG operations with plenty of camping sites, water hook up and waste water dump on-site.

With both asphalt and grass runways available for take offs and landings this year there will be live band, fireworks for some night entertainment, food and beverage service will be attempted again and 100LL aviation fuel and 2 stroke oil available in the FBO office. The date of this fly in will coincide with the “Tater Hill” free fly competition that is located only a few miles up the road for those that want to visit that event during the daytime. An FAA Notam will be implemented for safety concerns that alert general aviation aircraft of your presence in the area. The beginning of August usually has proven to be the best weather conditions around here but just in case there is two large hangars for equipment storage and shelter during the rare inclement weather. Please share this announcement with all your buddies to make this event another gathering to remember.

For liability reasons, there will be no charge for event participation. Camping on property is $20.00 per night and for those that just want to park an equipment trailer on site is $10.00 per night.
